What it catches

Inflated income, missed payments, hidden transactions

Fraudsters can change the numbers people look at and forget the ones that have to agree. Reconciliation checks every one of them.

Edited credits

A salary or transfer pumped up to look like more income. The running balance stops adding up at the line that was changed.

Hidden gambling

Betting transactions taken out of a statement before it's sent. The maths shows something is missing, even when the page looks clean.

How reconciliation works
Opening balance

We start from the first printed balance on the statement.

Every transaction

Credits and debits applied in order, page after page.

Every printed balance

Each running balance checked against our own figure.

Closing balance

The final figure has to land where the statement says.

The exact break

The first line where the numbers part company, highlighted.

Alongside forensics

Font, metadata and version checks run on the same file.

Worked example

What a broken statement looks like

Here's how one edited credit shows up once every balance is recalculated (illustrative figures).

FAQs

Questions about bank balance reconciliation

What is bank balance reconciliation?

We recalculate the statement and flag any balance that doesn't add up, with the line where it happens.

What fraud does it catch?

Edited amounts, inserted or deleted transactions and changed balances. It's especially good at spotting removed gambling transactions and inflated income, where the page looks clean but the numbers can't all be true.

Which statements does it work on?

Personal and business bank statements, including long multi-page statements.

Does it replace the forensic checks?

No, it adds to them. Font, metadata and version history checks still run on the same file. Reconciliation catches edits that leave no forensic trace, and forensics catch edits where the maths was patched up too.

Do we need to integrate before we can start?

No. Most teams start in the drag-and-drop portal and are live in under an hour, then move to the API once they've seen the results on their own files.

How do I get it?

Bank balance reconciliation is part of Boost, priced per document alongside Confirmation of Payee, address verification and translation.

Is our customers' data safe?

Yes. We're ICO registered, Cyber Essentials certified, GDPR compliant and independently penetration tested, with UK and EU data residency. Our trust centre has the detail.

Document fraud detection and data extraction for lenders, brokers and financial institutions.
